Are you interested in Central Asia? Do you want to know more about working in this region, or gain ideas for your current research project? Then please join EURASIAN IDEAS at our roundtable discussion “Journalism, Reporting, and Fieldwork in Central Asia” on Wednesday, March 26 at 5.30pm. This roundtable will provide students and young researchers with valuable insight into the practical side of conducting journalistic or research work in Central Asia.

EURASIAN IDEAS is pleased to welcome the following speakers:

{C}·         Professor Peter Mollinga is a Professor for Development Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London. Professor Mollinga has extensive knowledge of Central Asia, as his research specialises in water politics and management of transboundary natural resources.

{C}·         Mr Bakyt Azimkanov is a former Media Advisor for a political party in Kyrgyzstan, and worked as Global Debt Capital Markets Reporter at Reuters. He currently is the London Correspondent of Azattyk, the Kyrgyz Service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

{C}·         Mr James Kilner is a former Reuters reporter and worked as Central Asia correspondent for the Daily Telegraph. He now is the editor of the Conway Bulletin, a weekly newssheet for Central Asia and the South Caucasus.

Through interaction with these experts who have built their careers around Central Asia, the roundtable discussion will familiarize participants with key strategies for conducting successful research in the post-Soviet space, as well as demonstrate the challenges of conducting journalistic research or fieldwork in this region. Participants will benefit from the exchange of best practices, as well as gain valuable insight about career paths in reporting and researching in Central Asia.
