This study group has been established to meet the needs of UK-based academics, translators, and members of the wider community engaged in reading, publishing, teaching or critiquing Russian or East European literature in translation. It is intended to build links and networks between translators and researchers active in different Slavonic languages; to create a mailing list to update list members on translation-related news; to sponsor at least one panel at the annual BASEES conference; and to organize regular workshops and/or conferences on literary translation. Our wider aim is to raise public awareness of the diversity and contemporaneity of translated literature currently in print, and to work with both translators and publishers to raise the international profile of Russian and East European literature.
